Deputy Chief Finance Officer, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Deputy Chief Financial Officer,
King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

United Kingdom

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the biggest and busiest NHS Trusts in the country.

Our 15,000 staff provide services across five hospitals, namely King’s College Hospital, Princess Royal University Hospital, Orpington Hospital, Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup, and Beckenham Beacon.

Together, these hospitals serve a population of more than one million people across Lambeth, Southwark and Bromley, with thousands of patients from further afield also accessing the highly specialist services we provide.

Our hospitals in numbers – at a glance

In total, we provide the following across our hospitals:

  • 46 operating theatres

  • 1,213 hospital beds

  • 130 operations a day

  • 800 births every month

  • 750,000 images and scans carried out every year.

Our services

We provide district general hospital services for the communities we serve, including Accident and Emergency and maternity services at our King’s College Hospital and Princess Royal University Hospital sites. Our teams also provide world renowned specialist services such as liver transplantation, neurosciences, cardiology, haematology and fetal medicine.

Our hospitals also host a set of highly specialised diagnostic and emergency care services, including a heart attack centre, and two hyper-acute stroke units. King’s is also one of London’s designated trauma centres.

Teaching and research

Over 500 resident doctors undergo rotations at our King’s College Hospital site every year, with a further 250 based at the Princess Royal University Hospital.

Our teams are also very active in research, with 35,000 patients supported to take part in research studies during 2023/24.

Epic, our new electronic patient record

Epic is the name of our electronic patient record system.

Launched in October 2023, Epic replaced a number of historic IT systems, as well as paper records, that were previously in use at the Trust. The system allows everyone involved in a patient’s care to have access to their records, whether in hospital, in a community clinic, or at home.

Our app for patients, MyChart, is linked to the Epic system so patients can securely and easily access their patient records, giving them more control over their care. Over 500,000 patients across King’s and Guy’s and St Thomas’ have signed up to MyChart to date.

Strategy, Values and partnerships

Our current Strong Roots, Global Reach strategy runs until 2026, and sets out our BOLD vision; to have brilliant people; to provide outstanding care for patients; to be leaders in research, innovation and education; and to have diversity, equality and inclusion at the heart of everything we do.

Our Values are as important. Our Values - Kind Respectful Team - drive what we do, were developed with input from staff at the Trust.
